I teach English and Cultural Studies with an emphasis on media studies. I am an advisor for the English program and the chair of the Cultural Studies program. I am an associate of the UBC Centre for Culture, Identity and Education (CCIE) http://ccie.educ.ubc.ca/
My research reflects an interest in media and performance and is informed by my dissertation on the performance of testimonials on daytime talk shows in the mid-1990s. More recently my research focuses on a) filmic representation of the first Gulf War and b) the problematic expressions of cultural nationalism in 1950s theatre production in the Okanagan, and c) television studies with a focus on reality TV.
I currently serve as the chair of UBC Okanagan Senate’s Budget and Resources committee and as the chair of the UBC Okanagan Budget committee for the Council of Senates.
