I teach courses in the English and Cultural Studies programs, in the areas of postcolonial literature (primarily literatures from Africa, the Caribbean, and South Asia) and global cultural studies (primarily globalization, representation, and conflict/violence). My general research areas are postcolonial literary and cultural studies, and studies in peace and culture. I have published a book that examines theories of resistance within postcolonialism, as well as articles on child rights, development agency marketing, and anti-globalization dissent. For more information on my current teaching and research, please see the links on the right.
I am an associate of the UBC Centre for Culture, Identity and Education (CCIE) http://ccie.educ.ubc.ca/
I am also the Equity Representative for the Department of Critical Studies; if you have questions or concerns about harassment, discrimination, human rights, or equity issues, please do not hesitate to contact me. As well, I am involved in the UBC O Embrace Diversity campaign and sit on the DVC Committee for Human Rights and Equity. |
